Varicocele repair

A varicocele is a dilation of the veins surrounding the testicle, comparable to varicose veins. Common and most often located on the left side, it can cause a feeling of heaviness or discomfort in the scrotum, and is one of the treatable causes identified in male fertility work-ups. Surgical treatment consists of interrupting the dilated veins to restore normal venous drainage. The procedure is performed through a short incision or laparoscopically, under anesthesia, with a generally very straightforward recovery. It is an outpatient procedure in the vast majority of cases: the patient goes home the same day and quickly resumes his usual activities, simply avoiding strenuous physical exertion for a few weeks.
