Curettage

Curettage is a common gynecological procedure that consists of gently removing the contents, or part of the lining, of the uterine cavity through the natural passages, without any incision. It is performed under anesthesia, most often general and of short duration. Its indications are varied: emptying the uterine cavity after a miscarriage, sampling the uterine lining for diagnostic purposes in the event of abnormal bleeding, or treating certain abnormalities of the lining. The gynecologist explains beforehand the precise purpose of the procedure in each situation. Curettage is generally performed as a day-case procedure: the patient is admitted in the morning, the procedure is brief, and she returns home the same day after a few hours of monitoring. When it is performed in the context of a miscarriage, the team surrounds the patient with particular attentiveness, caring for her physical comfort as much as her emotional well-being.
