What is it?

Assisted natural childbirth refers to vaginal delivery supported by a complete obstetric team: obstetrician-gynecologist, midwife, an anesthesiologist available for the epidural, and a pediatrician on call to welcome the newborn. This supervision makes it possible to experience the birth with respect for the natural process, together with the safety of a medical environment. Throughout labor, the well-being of mother and baby is monitored continuously by means of fetal monitoring. The mother-to-be is settled in a comfortable delivery room, where she may be accompanied by the person of her choice. An epidural is offered to those who wish, after an anesthesia consultation carried out beforehand. The clinic's maternity unit has a reassuring feature: the delivery rooms are directly adjacent to a caesarean section theater. Should the situation require it, surgical management can be carried out immediately, without any transfer. At Clinique Pasteur Tunis, the obstetric team is available 24 hours a day. After the birth, mother and baby are settled in a dedicated maternity room, where the team supports the first days: breastfeeding, newborn care and advice for the return home.

When is it indicated?

Full-term pregnancy with the obstetrician's approval for vaginal delivery

When the pregnancy reaches term and the obstetrician confirms that conditions are favorable, a natural vaginal birth can be considered with complete confidence.

Spontaneous onset of labor

When contractions begin on their own, the maternity team welcomes the mother-to-be at any hour to support the birth.

Scheduled induction for medical reasons

In certain situations, the obstetrician may decide to induce labor in order to protect the health of the mother or the baby.

Wish for a physiological birth in a safe setting

For mothers who wish for a birth that is as natural as possible, while benefiting from the safety of a medical environment.

Preparation

Procedure

Aftercare & Recovery

After the delivery, the mother is monitored for a few hours and then joins her room with her baby. The maternity stay generally lasts 24 to 48 hours, during which the team supports breastfeeding and newborn care. Recovery after a vaginal birth is usually quick, with a gradual return to normal activities in the days that follow.

Risks and side effects

Continuous monitoring allows any abnormality to be detected immediately and care to be adapted

If necessary, the adjacent caesarean section theater allows intervention without delay

Small tears or an episiotomy are possible; they are repaired immediately and heal within a few weeks
