Breast lift (mastopexy)

Lifting and reshaping of sagging breasts, with or without implants, to restore a shapely, firm bust.

What is it?

Mastopexy, or breast lift, corrects breast ptosis, that is, sagging of the breasts: the breast droops, the areola points downwards and the upper part of the cleavage appears empty. This change is common after pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss or simply with time. The procedure lifts the breast, recentres the areola and reshapes the gland to restore a harmonious, firm contour. When volume is also lacking, an implant can be placed during the same operation; conversely, lipofilling can enhance the contour in a natural way. The scars depend on the degree of ptosis: sometimes limited to the edge of the areola, they most often include a vertical line below the areola. They fade progressively and remain invisible in low-cut clothing. At Clinique Pasteur Tunis, mastopexy is performed on a tailored basis by plastic surgeons, alone or combined with an implant or lipofilling, with a short hospital stay and attentive healing follow-up through to the final result.

When is it indicated?

Sagging breasts after pregnancy or breastfeeding

After pregnancy or breastfeeding, the breasts can droop and empty; the lift raises them and restores their shape.

Breast ptosis after significant weight loss

Marked weight loss often leaves the bust sagging; the procedure reshapes it to match the new figure.

Age-related breast sagging

Over the years, the breast tissues naturally loosen; mastopexy restores a firm, well-positioned bust.

Low areolas pointing downwards

When the areola drops and points downwards, it is recentred in the correct position for a natural-looking breast.

Empty upper cleavage with loss of upper breast fullness

When the upper part of the breast appears hollow in low-cut clothing, reshaping, sometimes complemented by an implant or fat, restores this fullness.

Duration

1 hour 30 to 3 hours depending on the associated procedures

Aftercare & Recovery

The bust immediately regains its position and shape, with the breast softening and taking on its final form over the months. Wearing the support bra for a few weeks protects the result, which is long-lasting.

Risks and side effects

Scars, fading progressively with appropriate care
Minor asymmetry that may warrant a touch-up, uncommon
Temporary change in areola sensitivity

These risks remain rare. Your surgeon will inform you in detail before the procedure.
